Shakib Al Hasan Hails Growth of Abu Dhabi T10 as Global Stars Join the League

Bangla Tigers captain Shakib Al Hasan has lauded the Abu Dhabi T10 league for its remarkable growth, crediting its ability to attract some of the world’s top cricketers. Now in its eighth edition, the 2024 Abu Dhabi T10 features international stars like Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade, Lockie Ferguson, and Rashid Khan, further solidifying its status as a premier cricketing competition.

Speaking after his team’s seven-wicket defeat against the New York Strikers at Zayed Cricket Stadium, Shakib praised the competitive nature of the league. Despite the loss, the performances of Shakib and his teammate Rashid Khan were notable highlights in a low-scoring contest, as the spin duo consistently troubled the opposition.

Reflecting on the match and the league, Shakib noted the spin-friendly conditions and the challenge posed by the T10 format. “Today, there was help for the spinners on the surface, and they bowled really well. As far as T10 is concerned, it has grown a lot. All the big players are willing to come here and play. It’s a lovely place to be in Abu Dhabi to play competitive cricket for two weeks,” Shakib said, as quoted by Abu Dhabi T10.

He also highlighted the unique demands of the 10-over format, emphasizing the need for skill and adaptability. “In a shorter format like this, everyone will go after bowlers—whether it’s a fast bowler or a spinner. Spinners are bowling well at this point, but at night, dew might come into play and help batters,” he explained.

“In T10, there’s almost no time to adjust. You need skillful players to succeed here. Every ball requires focus, and this season we have a pool of highly skilled players,” Shakib added.

This marks Shakib’s second season in the Abu Dhabi T10. He previously captained the Bangla Tigers in 2022, leading them to a final finish that year. Under his leadership, the Tigers are aiming for their maiden Abu Dhabi T10 title, buoyed by their earlier triumph in the Zim Afro T10 this year.
