Punjab Kings’ record-breaking signing, Shreyas Iyer, has set his sights on securing the franchise’s maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title. The star Indian cricketer expressed his enthusiasm about joining the Punjab-based team and vowed to make an impact right from the start.
Having been acquired for a staggering ₹26.75 crore at the IPL 2025 auction, Iyer described his excitement in a video shared on Punjab Kings’ official social media platforms. “I’m super excited to be part of Punjab Kings. I cannot wait to join the Punjab Kings family. It’s been a fantastic year for me, winning four trophies, but my main goal is to win the IPL trophy for Punjab,” he said.

Shreyas Iyer’s journey to the Punjab Kings has been nothing short of spectacular. The 30-year-old began the year as a key player for the Mumbai team that clinched the Ranji Trophy for a record 42nd time. He then captained the Kolkata Knight Riders to their third IPL title, showcasing his leadership abilities on the grand stage.
Iyer also played a pivotal role in Mumbai’s triumph in the Irani Cup and led the team to their second Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) title this season. Reflecting on the SMAT victory, he said, “It’s a surreal feeling after winning the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. A lot of hard work took place behind the scenes. The boys were tremendous with their performance. Now, we are done with this part.”
A key highlight for Iyer in the upcoming season is reuniting with Ricky Ponting, the former Australian World Cup-winning captain and the newly-appointed head coach of Punjab Kings. Iyer and Ponting share a strong working relationship from their previous IPL stints, and the cricketer is eager to collaborate with him once again.
