Mumbai has announced its squad for the Ranji Trophy quarterfinal against Haryana, with Suryakumar Yadav making his return to domestic red-ball cricket. The match is scheduled to take place at Bansi Lal Cricket Stadium in Lahli from February 8, with Ajinkya Rahane leading the side. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) confirmed the squad on its website.
Suryakumar’s inclusion comes at a crucial time as he looks to regain form after struggling with the bat in recent outings. He managed just 28 runs in five innings against England and has accumulated only 66 runs in his last 10 innings across all formats for India and Mumbai. With India’s three-match ODI series against England beginning on February 6, key players such as Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shreyas Iyer will be unavailable for the quarterfinal.

Bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur, who has been in exceptional form for Mumbai this season, will also feature in the squad. With the ICC Champions Trophy set to begin on February 19, Thakur is currently not in India’s plans for the tournament and will look to maintain his impressive run in domestic cricket. He recently delivered a match-winning performance against Meghalaya, claiming four-wicket hauls in both innings and scoring a crucial 84 in the first innings to earn the ‘Player of the Match’ award. In seven matches this season, Thakur has taken 24 wickets at an average of 23.95, with best figures of 4/43. His batting contributions have been equally significant, scoring 381 runs in eight innings at an average of 47.62, including a century and three fifties, with a highest score of 119.
Shivam Dube, fresh off an impactful T20I series against England where he scored 83 runs, including a fifty, and took two wickets, has also been named in the squad. Mumbai will further rely on promising young talents such as Ayush Mhatre and Suryansh Shedge, who have been included in the lineup.
Mumbai finished the league stage in second place in Group A with four wins, two losses, and a draw, collecting 29 points. However, their campaign saw an unexpected setback when they suffered a shocking five-wicket loss to Jammu and Kashmir, despite fielding a full-strength squad that included Rohit, Jaiswal, Rahane, Iyer, Dube, and Thakur.
Squad: Ajinkya Rahane (captain), Ayush Mhatre, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Amogh Bhatkal, Suryakumar Yadav, Siddhesh Lad, Shivam Dube, Akash Anand (WK), Hardik Tamore (WK), Suryansh Shedge, Shardul Thakur, Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian, Mohit Avasthi, Sylvester Dsouza, Royston Dias, Atharva Ankolekar.
