Taijul Islam leads Bangladesh to historic 101-run victory over West Indies

Bangladesh achieved a milestone victory over the West Indies, securing a 101-run win in the second Test at Sabina Park, Kingston. This triumph marked their first Test win in the Caribbean in over 15 years, leveling the two-match series 1-1 and elevating Bangladesh to eighth place in the ICC World Test Championship standings.

The victory was spearheaded by spinner Taijul Islam, who claimed his 15th five-wicket haul in Test cricket, taking 5/50 in the West Indies’ second innings. His performance was instrumental in dismissing the hosts for 185, sealing a historic win on the fourth day. Taijul struck crucial blows, ensuring the West Indies couldn’t chase down the 287-run target despite resistance from Kavem Hodge (55) and captain Kraigg Brathwaite (43).

Taijul’s brilliance was complemented by strong team contributions. Fast bowler Nahid Rana shone in the first innings with a maiden five-wicket haul (5/61), while Taskin Ahmed delivered consistent performances across the series, earning him joint Player of the Series honors. Jaker Ali also played a key role with a vital knock of 91 in the first innings, setting up a daunting total for the West Indies.

This victory was Bangladesh’s third away Test win of the year, a testament to their growing resilience and skill in overseas conditions. The West Indies, who now trail Bangladesh in the World Test Championship standings, have a chance to regain their position in the upcoming series against Pakistan next year.

Bangladesh’s historic win not only secured them a series draw but also provided significant momentum as they look forward to future Test cycles. For the West Indies, the loss highlighted areas needing improvement as they aim to bounce back on the international stage.
