Tanzid, Mahedi Star as Bangladesh Clinch T20I Series Against Sri Lanka

Bangladesh sealed a dominant eight-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the second T20I on Wednesday, clinching the three-match series 2-1 after earlier setbacks in the Test and ODI formats. The victory was built on a fiery bowling display by Mahedi Hasan and a powerful unbeaten knock from opener Tanzid Hasan.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Sri Lanka’s innings got off to a shaky start under pressure from Bangladesh’s bowlers. Mahedi Hasan struck early in the powerplay, dismantling the top order and reducing Sri Lanka to 49 for 4 in just 7.4 overs. He capped off his impressive spell by removing a well-set Pathum Nissanka, who top-scored with 46 off 39 balls, pushing Sri Lanka to 66 for 5.

Some resistance came from Kamindu Mendis, who added 21 off 15, and skipper Dasun Shanaka, who played a valuable unbeaten knock of 35 off 25 balls, including four boundaries and two sixes. However, Sri Lanka could only manage 132 for 7 in their 20 overs. Mahedi ended with remarkable figures of 4 for 11 from his four overs, earning him the Player of the Match award. Shoriful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, and Shamim Hossain also contributed with one wicket each.

Chasing 133, Bangladesh had an early hiccup as Parvez Hossain Emon was dismissed for a duck. But Tanzid Hasan launched a fierce counterattack, smashing an unbeaten 73 off 47 balls, laced with one four and six towering sixes. He found solid support in captain Litton Das, who scored 32 not out off 26 balls, including two fours and a six, forming a crucial 74-run partnership.

Tanzid stayed at the crease till the end and was joined by Towhid Hridoy, who added a brisk 27 not out off 25 deliveries. The pair comfortably guided Bangladesh to victory with 21 balls to spare. For Sri Lanka, Nuwan Thushara and Kamindu Mendis picked up one wicket each.
