Team India arrives in Nagpur ahead of ODI series against England after dominant T20 victory

  • by

Indian cricket stars, including Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shubman Gill, arrived in Nagpur on Sunday evening ahead of the first ODI against England. The highly anticipated three-match ODI series between India and England is set to commence on February 6, with the Indian squad largely unchanged from the one that played in the ICC Champions Trophy. The only modification in the lineup is the inclusion of Harshit Rana, who has replaced Jasprit Bumrah.

The Indian squad for the ODI series features Rohit Sharma as captain, with Shubman Gill as his deputy. The lineup also includes stalwarts such as Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, and Ravindra Jadeja. The team is prepared to take on England in what promises to be an exciting series.

Meanwhile, India secured a commanding 4-1 victory in the recently concluded five-match series against England. In the final match at Wankhede Stadium, England won the toss and elected to bowl first. However, India put up a strong batting performance, led by Abhishek Sharma, who played a sensational knock of 135 runs off just 54 balls, hitting seven fours and 13 sixes. His explosive innings propelled India to a total of 247/9.

On the bowling front, England’s Brydon Carse was the most successful bowler, claiming three wickets, while Mark Wood also contributed with two dismissals. However, England struggled in their run chase, with opener Philip Salt being the only notable performer, scoring 55 runs off 23 balls, including seven boundaries and three sixes. The rest of the England batting lineup faltered as the Indian bowlers put on a clinical display.

Abhishek Sharma, along with Shivam Dube and Varun Chakravarthy, each claimed three wickets, dismantling the England batting order and restricting them to just 97 runs with nine overs to spare. India’s dominant performance ensured a resounding victory, sealing the series in emphatic fashion. Abhishek Sharma’s all-round brilliance earned him the ‘Player of the Match’ award, while Varun Chakravarthy was named ‘Player of the Series’ for his consistent performances.
