Team India bans open net sessions after crowd distraction at Adelaide Oval

Team India has decided to conduct their remaining training sessions behind closed doors at the Adelaide Oval after an open net practice session drew a crowd of over 5,000 spectators, creating a carnival-like atmosphere. According to a report by The Age, the Indian players felt uncomfortable with the distractions during the session, prompting the team to opt for privacy as they prepare for the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) against Australia.

A Cricket Australia (CA) spokesperson confirmed India’s request, saying, “India have expressed a preference for their remaining training sessions not to be open to the public to minimise potential noise or distractions.” In contrast, Australia’s training sessions will remain open to fans.

Intense Training Highlights

India’s preparations for the second Test included a rigorous practice session on Tuesday, featuring high-energy throwdowns and bowlers challenging key players. The session’s highlight was a face-off between star batter Virat Kohli and ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah. Kohli initially left a couple of deliveries but later displayed his trademark class with an immaculate backfoot punch, showcasing his readiness to handle the challenge.

Bumrah was in top form, generating significant movement off the pitch and troubling batters. Notably, he managed to beat Rishabh Pant’s outside edge consistently while bowling around the wicket.

India, leading the five-match series 1-0 after a commanding 295-run victory in Perth, will look to maintain their momentum in the day-night Test starting Friday in Adelaide. This match also provides an opportunity to move past the memories of the 2020 pink-ball Test at the same venue, where India recorded their lowest Test score of 36.
