The Hundred 2023: Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf picked up by Welsh Fire, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan unsold

During Thursday’s Hundred draft, a total of 64 players were selected across men’s and women’s categories by the eight participating teams, with 30 men’s players being picked.

Welsh Fire made a strong impression by acquiring Pakistani pace bowlers Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf for the tournament. Newly-appointed coach Michael Hussey also picked Tom Abell and Tim David, followed by the versatile allrounder David Willey.

Domestic players were in high demand, while notable overseas players such as Babar Azam, Kieron Pollard, and Trent Boult went unsold, partly due to potential availability issues. Following the Vitality Blast group stages, each team will have the opportunity to sign two additional ‘wildcard’ players and any necessary replacements before the Hundred commences on August 1.
