Tim David produced a breathtaking display of power-hitting to script history with the fastest T20I century for Australia, steering his team to a six-wicket win and an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series against West Indies at Warner Park, Basseterre.
West Indies, led by skipper Shai Hope, posted a formidable 214/4 after being sent in to bat. Hope himself was the star for the hosts, smashing his maiden T20I century off 55 balls, becoming only the second West Indies batter after Chris Gayle to achieve the feat in this format. Despite Hope’s milestone knock, the Caribbean side’s total proved insufficient against David’s remarkable counterattack.

Australia’s chase initially faltered, slipping to 87/4 in just 8.4 overs. However, David transformed the contest with an astonishing 128-run partnership alongside Mitchell Owen, who chipped in with an unbeaten 36 off 18 deliveries.
The turning point came during three overs bowled by West Indies spinners Gudakesh Motie, Akeal Hosein, and Roston Chase, where David launched nine towering sixes. He raced to his fifty in just 16 balls, surpassing the previous Australian record of 17 deliveries jointly held by Travis Head and Marcus Stoinis.
David didn’t stop there, reaching his maiden T20I hundred in only 37 balls, eclipsing Josh Inglis’ 43-ball record set against Scotland last year. Globally, this stands as the fastest T20I century by an Australian and the third-fastest overall, behind Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan, who holds the world record with a 27-ball ton.
David’s unbeaten 102, studded with six boundaries and 11 sixes, powered Australia to victory in just 16.1 overs, sealing the series in emphatic fashion.
“This was one of those days where everything clicked,” David said after the match. “I just wanted to keep it simple and back my strength, which is hitting the ball hard.”
