Tim Southee to lead Sharjah Warriorz in ILT20 Season 3

The Sharjah Warriorz have announced New Zealand cricket icon Tim Southee as their captain for the third season of the International League T20 (ILT20). A seasoned fast bowler renowned for his swing and versatility, Southee will lead the team in his debut appearance at the ILT20.

Tim Southee, 36, is celebrated as one of cricket’s finest modern pacers. Over his illustrious career, he has represented New Zealand in four ODI World Cups and six T20 World Cups. Known for his ability to swing the ball and his skill as a lower-order batter, Southee has captained New Zealand across all formats, showcasing his leadership on numerous occasions.

Having played in ten Indian Premier League (IPL) seasons, Southee has been a key player for franchises like Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Additionally, he has proven his mettle in leagues such as The Hundred and the Vitality Blast in the UK.

Southee’s bowling arsenal includes pace, outswing, cross-seam deliveries, and deceptive off-cutters, complemented by pinpoint accuracy and well-disguised variations. His expertise and cricketing intelligence make him a formidable force in global cricket.

Debuting internationally at 19, Southee has played 126 T20Is, taking 164 wickets with an impressive economy of 8 and a strike rate of 16.7. His best T20I figures of 5/18 underscore his match-winning ability in the shortest format.
