
Indian cricket stalwart Virat Kohli etched his name in history once again by surpassing his idol Sachin Tendulkar in a unique Test cricket achievement. On Day 3 of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy opener in Perth, Kohli became the Indian fielder with the third-most catches in Test cricket, taking his tally to 116, surpassing Tendulkar’s 115 catches.
The moment came during Australia’s innings when Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Nathan McSweeney, leaving skipper Pat Cummins as the nightwatchman. Shortly after, Mohammed Siraj induced an edge from Cummins, and Kohli, stationed at second slip, completed the catch to achieve this significant milestone.

Kohli now trails only Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman in the list of Indian fielders with the most Test catches. Dravid, famously known as “The Wall,” leads the chart with 210 catches, while Laxman occupies the second spot with 135.
The Test match in Perth saw India dominate across all departments, taking a commanding position in the series opener. Kohli, who scored a scintillating 81st international century during the game, also crossed another milestone in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT).
With his knock, Kohli became the seventh player to score over 2,000 runs in the BGT. In 26 matches in the marquee series, he has amassed 2,147 runs at an average of 48.79, including nine centuries and five half-centuries.
Kohli’s contributions extend far beyond his fielding feats. He reached his 30th Test century during the match, taking his career tally to 9,145 runs in 119 matches at an average of 48.13. With 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries in Test cricket, Kohli continues to be a cornerstone of India’s batting lineup.
