Wanindu Hasaranga Ruled Out of Bangladesh T20I Series Due to Injury

Sri Lanka will be without star spinner Wanindu Hasaranga for the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh after he sustained a hamstring injury. The right-arm spinner picked up the injury while batting during the third and final ODI of the recently concluded series.

Hasaranga played a crucial role in the ODI series, particularly in the opening match, where his performance helped trigger a dramatic collapse by Bangladesh. However, his injury in the final game has ruled him out of the T20Is, which are set to begin on Thursday, July 10. He will return to Colombo for rehabilitation at the High Performance Centre, and Sri Lanka Cricket has decided not to name a replacement for him.

Charith Asalanka will lead the T20I squad, which has undergone several changes following the team’s earlier T20I defeat to New Zealand earlier this year. The absence of Hasaranga, one of Sri Lanka’s most experienced T20 players, will be a setback as they aim to build momentum following their ODI series win.

Sri Lanka wrapped up the ODI series with a convincing 99-run victory in the third match at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. Kusal Mendis was the star of the day, scoring his sixth ODI century — a brilliant 124 off 115 balls — to help the team post 285/7. Bangladesh were bowled out for just 186 in response, giving Sri Lanka a 2-1 series win. Mendis was named Player of the Series for scoring 225 runs across the three games.

Sri Lanka T20I squad: Charith Asalanka (captain), Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Dinesh Chandimal, Kusal Perera, Kamindu Mendis, Avishka Fernando, Dasun Shanaka, Dunith Wellalage, Maheesh Theekshana, Jeffrey Vandersay, Chamika Karunaratne, Matheesha Pathirana, Nuwan Thushara, Binura Fernando, Eshan Malinga.
