Zimbabwe to Host Sri Lanka for Limited-Overs Series Ahead of T20 World Cup Qualifiers

Zimbabwe is set to welcome Sri Lanka for a white-ball series later this year, featuring two One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and three T20 Internationals (T20Is), with all matches scheduled to take place at the Harare Sports Club. The series will commence with ODIs on August 29 and 31, followed by the T20Is in early September, as confirmed by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The upcoming series holds strategic importance for Zimbabwe as the T20I leg will serve as vital preparation ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Regional Final. Zimbabwe is scheduled to host the regional final from September 19 to October 4, a tournament that will determine the final two African qualifiers for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which is set to be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

Zimbabwe Cricket’s Managing Director, Givemore Makoni, expressed enthusiasm about the timing and competitive potential of the series. “We are delighted to confirm Sri Lanka’s visit to Zimbabwe for what we expect to be a thrilling and competitive series,” he said. “Matches between our two nations have always produced entertaining cricket, and this tour comes at a crucial time for our team as we prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup qualifying campaign.”

The two sides last met in January 2024, when Sri Lanka claimed a 2-0 series win at home in a three-match ODI series. Both teams are yet to announce their squads for the upcoming tour.

The series is part of a packed calendar for Zimbabwe, who are also preparing to host reigning ICC World Test Champions South Africa for a two-Test series, followed by a triangular series involving South Africa and New Zealand. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka is currently engaged in their first assignment of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship cycle at home against Bangladesh, with a white-ball leg comprising three ODIs and three T20Is set to follow.
