In a thrilling match at the Holkar Stadium, Australia managed to beat India by 9 wickets, reducing the four-Test series deficit to 1-2 and securing their spot in the World Test Championship final. Usman Khawaja and Travis Head opened the innings, requiring 76 runs to win. Unfortunately for Khawaja, Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed him on the second ball of the day.

However, Marnus Labuschagne and Head played cautiously, not allowing India to take any more wickets. Once they settled in, they began to increase the scoring rate, with Head hitting boundaries and sixes, bringing up the 50-run mark in just 14.2 overs.

Despite the introduction of Umesh Yadav into the attack, Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja failed to dislodge the batters. Labuschagne eventually hit the winning run, with Australia chasing down the target in 18.5 overs. Head remained unbeaten on 49, while Labuschagne finished not out on 28, securing a well-deserved victory for the visitors.

Australia’s recent nine-wicket win against India in the third Test has secured their place in the ICC World Test Championship Final.

However, it’s still unclear who will join them in the decider. During the 2021-23 World Test Championship period, Australia has been the team to beat, winning 11 out of the 18 Tests they’ve played.

This impressive record has helped them accumulate 68.52 out of a possible 72 points, placing them comfortably in first place on the World Test Championship standings.

Even if they lose the final Test of their ongoing series against India, Australia will still finish the period as the top team.
