Asia Cup 2023: Rain Threat Looms Over India-Nepal Match, Here’s the Pitch and Weather Report for Today

Following the rain-curtailed draw between Team India and Pakistan, the forthcoming clash between India and Nepal in the Asia Cup is now also under the shadow of potential rain disruption. As weather forecasts predict rainfall on Monday, concerns arise about another washout that could impact the India-Nepal encounter.

The group stage match between India and Pakistan was thwarted by rain, compelling both teams to share a point each on Saturday. With one more match scheduled in the Kandy leg against Nepal on Monday, India faces the prospect of weather-related challenges once again.

Persisting rains in Pallekele since the previous day have fueled apprehensions, and the weather forecast remains discouraging for the India-Nepal match day. According to Google Weather, there is an 80 percent likelihood of rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in Pallekele, Kandy, on the day of the match.

In the ongoing group A standings, India currently secures the second position with one point, whereas Pakistan leads the table with three points.

During their innings, India achieved a total of 266/10 in 48.5 overs. However, the much-anticipated showdown of India’s bowling prowess, especially with the return of pacer Jasprit Bumrah, was thwarted by the rain, denying any further action on the field.

The pivotal partnership between Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya, contributing a stand of 138 off 140 balls, laid the groundwork for India’s final score. Nevertheless, Pakistan’s fierce pace attack posed a challenge for the Indian batting line-up, leading to their dismissal for 266 in 48.5 overs.

Shaheen Shah Afridi emerged as the game-changer for Pakistan, dismantling India’s top order by claiming the wickets of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and Ravindra Jadeja. Meanwhile, Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah secured three-wicket hauls each, intensifying the competition.

Pitch Report at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium

The pitch at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium has historically favored batsmen, offering a hard surface without hollow noises. Spinners could have a significant impact in the first innings, while the second innings is anticipated to assist pacers more. Teams winning the toss are likely to opt for batting second.
