Australia’s preparations for the 2025 ODI World Cup are set to begin with a three-match home series against India, starting Thursday. Stand-in captain Tahlia McGrath will lead the team in place of Alyssa Healy, who is sidelined due to injury.
The Australians currently sit atop the ICC Women’s Championship points table, holding a three-point lead over third-placed India. McGrath expressed excitement about the upcoming series, emphasizing the team’s commitment to maintaining their positive and aggressive style of play. “We love to take the game on, play positively, and it’s just more time to do that,” McGrath said.

Despite the home advantage, McGrath acknowledged India’s strengths, noting the tough competition the visitors bring. “They’ve got superstars. It’s always hard-fought with crucial moments in every game, and while we’re at home, we’re expecting significant support for India,” she remarked.
The series also marks a significant milestone for McGrath, who will captain the team for an entire series for the first time. “I’m excited. Every opportunity I get to lead any side is something I love, and I thrive on it,” McGrath said, adding that she looks forward to putting her own spin on the leadership role.
McGrath will work closely with vice-captain Ashleigh Gardner to implement new ideas and strategies. “This is a full series for me. I’m really excited about the opportunity to work alongside Ash, implement a few ideas of my own, and aim for a series win,” she explained.
As Australia looks ahead to the World Cup, the team remains focused on building momentum through this series. “We want to win that World Cup, and it all starts tomorrow,” McGrath concluded.
