BAN vs IND 2nd test day 4: Ashwin and Iyer seal thrilling 3-wicket win for India

Ashwin and Iyer shared a 71-run 8th-wicket partnership for India

Ravichandran Ashwin and Shreyas Iyer starred in India’s nail-biting victory in the 2nd test against Bangladesh. Ashwin top-scored for India with a vital 42, while Iyer contributed with 29 to take India home. With the win, India have swept the 2-match series 2-0 and strengthened their bid to qualify for the WTC finals.

With the score at 45 for 4, India needed to score 100 more runs to win and Bangladesh needed to take 6 more wickets to take the victory. India came out with positive intent, with Jaydev Unadkat hitting a six off Shakib Al Hasan but he departed the next ball.

Rishabh Pant continued to showcase India’s aggression as he hit a boundary off Shakib but Mehidy Hasan removed the Indian wicket-keeper. Mehidy completed his five-wicket haul when he clean-bowled Axar Patel for 34 to put India in deep trouble at 74 for 7.

Bangladesh had their sights on their first-ever win in Test cricket against India. Mominul Haque dropped a bat-pad chance of Ashwin off Meidy when he was on 1, which proved to be the turning point.

Both Iyer and Ashwin tried to rebuild the Indian innings, dealing in 1’s and 2’s. Iyer opened up, scoring three boundaries in a couple of overs to ease the pressure. Ashwin hit two more fours to bring up the fifty-partnership.

The victory was achieved swiftly as Mehidy Hasan was dismissed for 16 in one over. Mehdy started the over with a short ball, which Ashwin hit for a six over midwicket, followed by a boundary lofted over mid-off, before finally ending with a clip through midwicket.

Ravi Ashwin was rightly adjudged the Man of the Match for his 6 wickets and 54 runs in the test match, while Cheteshwar Pujara received the Man of the Series award for scoring a fifty and a century in the series.
