The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced that Viacom 18 has secured the BCCI Media Rights for both Television and Digital media for the next five years. This announcement was made by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah via a tweet on Thursday, setting the stage for a new era of cricket broadcasting.
With this partnership, Viacom 18, a prominent player in the media and entertainment industry, will now be the exclusive platform to showcase the home international matches of Team India. This landmark deal marks a strategic move by the BCCI to bring cricket enthusiasts even closer to the game by leveraging the extensive reach of Viacom 18’s channels and digital platforms.
Mr. Jay Shah expressed his delight on Twitter, saying, “Congratulations @viacom18 for winning the @BCCI Media Rights for both linear and digital for the next 5 years. India Cricket will continue to grow in both spaces as after @IPL, and @wplt20, we extend the partnership @BCCI Media Rights as well. Together we will continue to capture the imagination of cricket fans.”
In his tweet, he also extended gratitude to the previous media rights holders, Disney Star and Disney+Hotstar, for their invaluable support over the years. “Also a big thank you to @starindia @DisneyPlusHS for your support over the years. You played a key role in making India Cricket reach its fans across the globe,” he acknowledged.
This development comes at a significant time as Team India is currently participating in the Asia Cup, a prestigious cricket tournament that commenced on August 30. The “Men in Blue” are all set to embark on their Asia Cup journey with a highly anticipated match against arch-rivals Pakistan on Saturday, intensifying the excitement among cricket aficionados.
The BCCI-Viacom 18 partnership not only underscores the growing synergy between sports and media but also hints at a dynamic future for cricket broadcasting in India. With Viacom 18’s vast network and innovative digital platforms, cricket enthusiasts can expect an enriched and immersive viewing experience, bringing them closer to the heart of the game.
