Chennai Super Kings back to Chepauk after three years

The Chennai Super Kings are set to face off against the Lucknow Super Giants at their home ground in Chennai on Monday, a highly anticipated match for CSK fans. This marks the first time CSK will play at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium “Chepauk” in almost three years, as IPL matches were previously held outside India due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Even after the league returned to India in 2022, matches were limited to select venues.

The two teams last met during IPL 2022, with LSG emerging victorious by six wickets. CSK fans eagerly await the return of Dhoni, the team’s most iconic player, who has led the team since the inception of the IPL. The match is anticipated to draw vocal support from the home crowd, cheering for their team with a strong record at the stadium. CSK has played 56 matches at home, winning 40, losing 15, and tying one.

Chepauk stadium is known to favor spinners, with the wicket offering some turn. In the previous match, Dhoni did not utilize Moeen Ali for bowling, but he may be a valuable asset in this game. CSK is seeking their first win of the season after losing the opening match against Gujarat Titans. The Titans defeated CSK by five wickets in the first match of IPL 2023.

CSK’s batting lineup includes stars like Devon Conway, Ambati Rayadu, Ben Stokes, Moeen Ali, and Ravindra Jadeja, but they struggled in their opening match. Ruturaj Gaikwad stood out with his 92 runs off 50 balls, leading the team to a score of 178/7 in 20 overs. CSK’s bowling, however, lacked experience, as they missed Mukesh Choudhary and Sri Lankan players Maheesh Theekshana and Matheesha Pathirana. While Choudhary is out for the season due to a stress fracture, CSK hopes for the return of the Sri Lankan duo soon.

Rajvardhan Hangargekar’s 3/36 spell was a positive development for CSK, and the team hopes he will continue his strong performance in future games. Meanwhile, LSG enters the match confidently after defeating Delhi Capitals by 50 runs in their recent game. LSG fans hope for a second consecutive win, which would propel the team to the top of the points table.

West Indies players Kyle Mayers (73 off 38 balls) and Nicholas Pooran (36 off 21 balls) showcased their batting prowess in LSG’s recent win, reaching a score of 193/6 in 20 overs. However, LSG’s captain KL Rahul’s form remains a concern, and the team hopes for his return to top form against CSK. Other middle-order batters like Deepak Hooda, Marcus Stoinis, and Krunal Pandya must also step up to bolster LSG’s performance.

Mark Wood’s exceptional five-wicket haul in LSG’s victory over Delhi Capitals was a standout moment, and the team will aim for continued success from their bowlers like Avesh Khan and Ravi Bishnoi. Facing the four-time champions, LSG’s bowling lineup will be a key factor in their quest for another win.
