Australia captain Pat Cummins has provided a reassuring fitness update on all-rounder Mitchell Marsh ahead of the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India, set to begin in Adelaide. Despite concerns over back stiffness that has limited Marsh’s bowling in recent games, Cummins stated there is “no huge concern” and confirmed Marsh’s inclusion in the playing XI.
Marsh, who has been dealing with back issues since Australia’s ODI series in England earlier this year, is expected to bowl during the Test. “It’s back stiffness… he’s been prioritizing his overs for games rather than using them up in the nets,” said Cummins during the pre-match press conference.

The all-rounder’s batting has been crucial for Australia, with an average of 40 since his return to the team during last year’s Ashes. His presence adds depth to the Australian lineup as they look to bounce back from a 295-run loss in the first Test in Perth.
Australia also confirmed pacer Scott Boland’s return to the side for the Adelaide Test. Boland, who last played for Australia 18 months ago during the Ashes 2023, will replace the injured Josh Hazlewood. Hazlewood sustained an injury during the Perth Test and was ruled out of the second match.
India, meanwhile, staged a remarkable comeback in Perth, overcoming a shaky first-innings total of 150 to claim a commanding victory. Jasprit Bumrah’s sensational performance with both ball and captaincy left the Aussies reeling. Heading into Adelaide, India holds both a physical and psychological edge.
