Mumbai Indians (MI) have bolstered their squad for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season by acquiring pace bowler Deepak Chahar for Rs 9.25 crore during the IPL Mega Auction on Monday. Chahar, a seasoned pacer with a commendable track record, expressed his enthusiasm about joining the illustrious franchise and working alongside cricketing legends Mahela Jayawardene, Kieron Pollard, and Lasith Malinga.
In a warm welcome video shared on MI’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Chahar extended his gratitude towards the team management. “I am very excited. I have heard good things. Rahul [Chahar] was there, and he used to praise the management. Everybody sits and talks. This is the franchise where management is praised a lot. One is CSK [Chennai Super Kings] and the other is MI, so I am happy that I am moving from one family to another,” he stated. This move marks an ‘El Clasico’ transition from Chennai Super Kings to Mumbai Indians, highlighting the competitive spirit within the IPL.

Chahar’s IPL journey began in 2016 with the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants before he joined Chennai Super Kings in 2018. Over 81 IPL matches, he has taken 77 wickets, with his most impressive season in 2019 when he claimed 22 wickets in 17 matches. His experience and skill set make him a valuable addition to MI’s already formidable bowling lineup, which includes stars like Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult.
“I am thrilled to be part of the Mumbai Indians family,” Chahar added in his video. “The team management has always been supportive, and I look forward to contributing to the team’s success in the upcoming season.”
The addition of Deepak Chahar is a strategic move by Mumbai Indians to enhance their bowling strength and depth. Chahar’s ability to swing the ball both ways and his experience in high-pressure matches will be pivotal as MI aims to defend their title and perform consistently throughout the tournament.
