Faf du Plessis Joins Delhi Capitals for IPL 2025: “Excited to Add Value to the Team”

Veteran South African cricketer Faf du Plessis has joined Delhi Capitals (DC) ahead of the IPL 2025 season, expressing his excitement about contributing to the team. Du Plessis, a seasoned T20 player, was acquired by DC at his base price of ₹2 crore during the IPL 2025 mega-auction.

In a video shared by DC’s official social media, the 40-year-old shared his enthusiasm about playing for the franchise. “It’s always an honour and privilege to be part of the IPL. I am super proud to be back, this time with the Delhi Capitals. I’m excited to add value to the team and look forward to seeing everyone in March,” he said.

Du Plessis brings immense experience to Delhi Capitals, having been part of the IPL since 2012. He previously played for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Rising Pune Supergiant (RPG), and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), where he served as captain from 2022 onward.

During his stint with RCB, he amassed 1,636 runs in 45 matches at an impressive average of 38.04 and a strike rate of nearly 147, including 15 half-centuries. Across his illustrious T20 career, Du Plessis has scored 10,950 runs in 393 matches, with six centuries and 76 fifties, making him one of the most accomplished players in the format.

Ahead of the 2025 season, Delhi Capitals retained key players such as Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Tristan Stubbs, and Abishek Porel. The team will hope Du Plessis’ experience and leadership can bolster their chances of winning their maiden IPL title.

Delhi Capitals reached their first-ever IPL final in 2020 but fell short. In the 2024 season, they narrowly missed the playoffs due to net run rate, finishing with seven wins and 14 points.

With Du Plessis now in their ranks, DC fans will be optimistic about the team’s chances of achieving IPL glory in the upcoming season.
