In a must-win match for Royal Challengers Bangalore, the Gujarat Titans (GT) won the match beating RCB by 6 wickets, thanks to Shubman Gill’s electrifying century at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium. Gill’s unbeaten 104 (52 balls) outplayed Virat Kohli’s impressive 101-run contribution for RCB, knocking RCB out of the tournament before the playoffs.

Earlier, GT skipper Hardik Pandya had chosen to bowl first. RCB introduced two new players, Dinesh Karthik and Vijaykumar Vyshak replacing Karn Sharma and Shahbaz Ahmed. Kohli and Faf du Plessis opened RCB’s innings on a promising note, scoring rapidly and bringing the team to 62/0 at the conclusion of the powerplay. The duo was split at 67 when Noor Ahmad cleverly outplayed du Plessis. Despite intermittent successes from the GT bowlers, Kohli’s tenacity held strong, securing his century and leading RCB to a formidable 197/5.

Chasing 198, GT opened confidently, despite losing Wriddhiman Saha early in the powerplay. Gill and Vijay Shankar began a steady chase, maintaining a decent run rate with strategic boundaries. Gill reached his fifty off just 29 balls, while Shankar contributed a commendable 53 (35 balls). However, GT lost Shankar and Dasun Shanaka in quick succession, and the onus was back on Gill.

Despite David Miller’s short-lived innings, Gill remained focused, continually reducing the required run rate with calculated strikes. With 19 runs needed from 12 balls, Gill showcased his brilliance, sealing the victory and his century with a final six off Parnell’s delivery.

Gill’s exceptional performance, carrying GT to a thrilling win, not only knocked RCB out of the tournament but also paved the way for Mumbai Indians to proceed to the playoffs. His noteworthy century, coupled with strategic playing from other GT batsmen, effectively thwarted Kohli’s spirited efforts and RCB’s substantial target, thus encapsulating the nail-biting essence of IPL cricket.
