The BCCI announced the squad for India’s Test series against Australia on Friday, with Rohit Sharma as the captain and KL Rahul as the vice-captain. Suryakumar Yadav has been added to the team for the Border-Gavaskar series, and wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan has received his first call-up in the longer format.

Prithvi Shaw, who has performed well in domestic matches, scoring truckload of runs, did not make the cut. Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja, who has been out due to injury, will make a comeback if he is fit. The all-rounder needs to clear a medical test to be available for selection.

KL Rahul and Axar Patel, who were absent from the Indian squad for the New Zealand series due to family commitments, will return for the Test series starting on February 9th. J

Jasprit Bumrah will continue his rehabilitation and is not included in the squad. The selectors are taking a cautious approach when it comes to the premier Indian fast bowler given his injury troubles of late. The pace attack includes Umesh Yadav, Mohammad Shami, and Mohammed Siraj, and recently recalled Jaydev Unadkat as a left-arm option.

Fans were disappointed by the exclusion of Sanju Samson and Sarfaraz Khan from all the squads. The series is crucial for both teams as it will impact the World Test Championship standings. The series begins in Nagpur on February 9th, with Tests in Delhi, Dharamsala, and Ahmedabad.

India’s squad for first 2 Tests vs Australia:

Rohit Sharma (C), KL Rahul (vc), Shubman Gill, C Pujara, V Kohli, S Iyer, KS Bharat (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), R Ashwin, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Jaydev Unadkat, Suryakumar Yadav
