IND vs AUS: Shreyas Iyer ruled out of ODI series against Australia due to back injury

India’s middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer will not be able to participate in the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia due to his recurring back injury as India’s fielding coach T. Dilip confirmed.

Iyer had to leave the field during the fourth Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Ahmedabad because of his injury.

Unfortunately, the injury has not healed completely, and it will sideline him for the ODI series against Australia.

During the final Test in Ahmedabad, Iyer was forced to miss the first innings as India piled up a score of 571 runs, with brilliant centuries from Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli.

However, India’s fielding coach T. Dilip confirmed at the pre-series press conference that Iyer will be unavailable for the ODI series against Australia.

“Injuries are a part and parcel of the game. We have the best medical facilities and they are well-equipped, and our medical team and NCA medical team are in coordination. Regarding Shreyas, he’s been ruled out of this series. And further updates, we’ll let you know as and when we know it,” said Dilip in a press conference.

The 28-year-old Indian middle-order batter, Shreyas Iyer, has suffered a recurrence of his back injury, ruling him out of the upcoming three-game ODI series against Australia.

Earlier this year, Iyer had complained of a similar injury after the ODI series against Sri Lanka and was subsequently ruled out of India’s ODI series against New Zealand.

As a precaution, he was sent to the BCCI’s National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore before being cleared for the current Test series against Australia.

Iyer’s injury forced him to sit out the first innings of the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, where India posted a solid total of 571.

India’s fielding coach, T. Dilip, confirmed the news of Iyer’s unavailability for the limited-overs series against Australia at a pre-series press conference.

The India-Australia ODI series is set to begin on March 17 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

The hosts will be without their regular captain, Rohit Sharma, for the first game, but he is expected to return for the last two games. In Rohit’s absence, Hardik Pandya will lead the side in the first ODI.
