India announces 15-member squad for U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025

India has revealed its 15-member squad for the upcoming U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025, with Niki Prasad leading the team and Sanika Chalke named as her deputy. The defending champions are gearing up to retain their title after a stellar victory in the inaugural edition in 2023 under Shafali Verma’s leadership. The announcement was confirmed by the ICC on Tuesday.

The squad includes two wicketkeepers, Kamalini G and Bhavika Ahire, who have shown exceptional promise in domestic and international formats. Three standby players have also been named to ensure a well-rounded team for the tournament.

Kamalini G, one of the standout names in the squad, has been in the spotlight following her remarkable performances in the U19 circuit. The 16-year-old from Tamil Nadu was instrumental in her state team’s triumph in the U19 domestic tournament, scoring 311 runs in eight matches. She also impressed in the Under-19 tri-series final, top-scoring with 79 runs for India B against South Africa A.

Her talent was further recognized during the 2025 Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction, where she was signed by the Mumbai Indians for a whopping ₹1.6 crore. A bidding war between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals saw her value skyrocket, cementing her status as a rising star in Indian cricket.

India enters the tournament with momentum, having recently won the U19 Women’s Asia Cup by defeating Bangladesh in the final. Key players G Trisha and Aayushi Shukla, who led the runs and wickets tally in the Asia Cup with 159 runs and 10 wickets, respectively, are also part of the squad.

The 2025 U19 Women’s T20 World Cup will feature 16 teams divided into four groups. India has been placed in Group A alongside Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and West Indies. The team will kick off its campaign on January 19 against West Indies at Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur, which will host all of India’s group-stage matches.
