India Claims No. 1 Ranking in ICC Team Ranking for ODIs, T20s and Tests

In a thrilling ODI clash against Australia in Mohali, India not only secured a five-wicket victory but also made history by becoming the No. 1 ranked team in the MRF Tyres Men’s ODI Team Rankings. With this remarkable feat, India now holds the top spot in all three international cricket formats.

The decisive moment came as India managed to edge past their arch-rivals Pakistan in the rankings, with India accruing 116 rating points to Pakistan’s 115. This shift in rankings occurred immediately following India’s triumph in the first ODI against Australia, pushing them to the pinnacle of ODI cricket.

This historic achievement means that India is now the undisputed leader in Test cricket, T20Is, and ODIs, a feat that only South Africa had accomplished before in men’s cricket back in August 2012.

India’s journey to the No. 1 ranking in ODIs in the wake of their Asia Cup campaign and Australia’s ODI series against South Africa was nothing short of a roller-coaster ride. Pakistan managed to hold on to their No. 1 spot despite not making it to the Asia Cup Final. India and Australia had both come close to seizing the top spot during these events but faltered when it counted the most.

Australia, after their recent loss, has lost their chance to become the No. 1 ODI team heading into the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. However, Pakistan still has a glimmer of hope if Australia manages to win the remaining two matches.

With the No. 1 spot secured across all formats, India is now in the driver’s seat as they approach the marquee event, the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, hosted on home soil. Their remarkable consistency in the longer format, leading to a second consecutive World Test Championship Final appearance in June, has bolstered their reputation. They may not have clinched the title, but their dominance in bilateral series remains impressive, with just one series loss against South Africa in 2021-22 marring their record.
