Star India and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter Virat Kohli participated in a nets session ahead of the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) which starts on Friday.
RCB will begin their IPL 2023 season with a match against Mumbai Indians (MI) at their home ground, M Chinnaswamy Stadium, in Bengaluru on April 2.
Kohli, who is the highest run-scorer in IPL history, has struggled in recent IPL seasons, including last year’s edition where he only scored 341 runs in 16 matches with an average of 22.73.
However, he has shown good form for India since the 2022 Asia Cup, and fans will hope that he can regain his touch with the willow.
Kohli had a phenomenal 2016 IPL season where he scored 973 runs in 16 matches, including four centuries, and is considered one of the greatest batters in the history of the tournament.
Experts, including Aakash Chopra, Anil Kumble, and Zaheer Khan, have discussed his achievements and expectations ahead of the new season.
Kumble, who was also a part of the RCB squad in the inaugural season, spoke about a young Kohli in the dressing room, saying, “He was very confident when he walked into the dressing room, and you could see the talent as soon as you watched him at the nets.” Khan elaborated on the change he saw in Kohli over the years, saying, “One thing that stands out is Virat’s appetite to learn and how quickly he went on adding things to his game and his approach to the game.”
The 2023 IPL season starts on Friday, with defending champions Gujarat Titans taking on four-time winners Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
