IPL 2026: KKR Beat LSG In Super Over As Rinku Singh Stars In Thrilling Win

Kolkata Knight Riders secured a dramatic victory over Lucknow Super Giants in a Super Over clash in IPL 2026, with Rinku Singh playing a decisive role in sealing the win in Lucknow.

In the Super Over, LSG managed to score just one run, setting a minimal target of two runs. Rinku Singh finished the contest in style, smashing a four on the very first ball to hand KKR a memorable win.

The match had gone down to the Super Over after a tense finish in regulation play. Defending 17 runs in the final over, Kartik Tyagi struggled with control and bowled two no-balls. Himmat Singh capitalised on the free-hit with a boundary on the second delivery. Although Tyagi bounced back to dismiss Himmat on the next ball, the momentum had shifted. Mohammed Shami then hit a six on the final delivery to tie the match and force a Super Over.

Chasing earlier, Lucknow Super Giants had a cautious start after losing Mitchell Marsh early. Captain Rishabh Pant and Aiden Markram tried to rebuild, but the disciplined bowling from Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy restricted scoring opportunities.

The pair added 49 runs but struggled to find boundaries, reaching 57/1 after nine overs, which pushed the required run rate into double digits. The turning point came when Markram was dismissed for 30 after a brilliant boundary catch by Rinku Singh off Cameron Green’s bowling.

Soon after, Pant was dismissed following a successful review by wicketkeeper Tim Seifert, leaving LSG at 81/3 in the 13th over. Nicholas Pooran also failed to make an impact, falling for 9 off 12 balls to Varun Chakaravarthy.

As the pressure mounted, Ayush Badoni and Himmat Singh attempted a late push. They attacked Kartik Tyagi for 14 runs in the 17th over, but Badoni was dismissed for 24 in the next over by Chakaravarthy. George Linde added 8 before being removed by Vaibhav Arora, while Shami added a boundary early in his innings to keep hopes alive.

Earlier in the match, Rinku Singh had already made a major impact with the bat. He scored a brilliant unbeaten 83 off 51 balls, rescuing KKR from a difficult position and helping them post 155/7.

KKR had suffered a dramatic collapse after a strong start from Cameron Green, who made 34 with three sixes. Mohsin Khan was the standout bowler for LSG, delivering a sensational spell of 5/23. He dismissed Tim Seifert for a duck, Ajinkya Rahane for 10, and Green, along with Rovman Powell and Anukul Roy, reducing KKR to 73/6 in 11 overs.

At one stage, KKR were struggling at 93/7 in 15 overs, and even reaching 100 seemed difficult. However, Rinku held his nerve and rebuilt the innings with the lower order.

In the closing stages, he shifted gears dramatically. He scored 17 runs in the 19th over bowled by Mohammed Shami and then produced a stunning finish in the final over by hitting four consecutive sixes off Digvesh Rathi, collecting 26 runs in the over to lift KKR to a competitive total.

Rinku remained unbeaten on 83, hitting seven fours and five sixes, capping off an outstanding all-round performance that ultimately led KKR to victory in a thrilling Super Over finish.

Rinku Singh Says He Planned To Take Game Till End After Match-Winning Knock Against LSG

Kolkata Knight Riders batter Rinku Singh revealed that his clear approach during the tense clash against Lucknow Super Giants was to stay till the end and guide the innings after an early collapse, a strategy that ultimately helped his team secure a thrilling Super Over win in IPL 2026.

“When I went into bat, four wickets had fallen, so I kept thinking about how I could go about, and I had to take the game till the end. Since we had lost four wickets, it was about keeping the scoreboard moving and putting the loose balls away,” Rinku Singh said after the match.

“Really happy with the victory. The way we played after the 16 overs, Rinku’s innings was amazing. That last one over and getting the momentum on our side was amazing. But the kind of bowling we did was amazing. It was about having that belief, one wicket here and there and the opposition is back in the game, we were really confident about our spinners. We knew one wicket would change the game for us. No, not really. Tyagi has been really good, Vaibhav as well. All these Indian guys are doing well. But let’s not take credit away from Rinku Singh. You have to be in the moment, using the longer boundary is something we spoke about, and guys have been practising. You have to be clear as a bowler,” Rahane said.
