IPL Mega Auction: 13-Year-Old Vaibhav Suryavanshi Becomes Youngest Player in IPL History, Bought by Rajasthan Royals

The IPL 2025 Mega Auction delivered a historic moment as 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the youngest player ever to be sold in the tournament’s history. Rajasthan Royals (RR) secured the services of the young sensation for ₹1.1 crore after a fierce bidding war with Delhi Capitals, leaving fans and cricket pundits in awe.

Born on March 27, 2011, in Bihar, Vaibhav’s cricketing journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. He made his first-class debut for Bihar at the age of 12 years and 284 days in January 2024. His meteoric rise continued when he smashed a 58-ball century in an India U19 match against Australia last month in Chennai.

In his fledgling first-class career, Vaibhav has played five matches, scoring 100 runs with a highest score of 41. Currently competing in the Ranji Trophy, the young prodigy’s inclusion in the IPL is a testament to his immense potential.

Rajasthan Royals’ determination to acquire Vaibhav showcased their focus on investing in future stars. “He’s a rare talent with a maturity beyond his years. We believe he has the potential to be a game-changer for us in the long run,” an RR spokesperson commented.

Other Notable Picks

While Vaibhav stole the limelight, several other players also made headlines:

  • Kamlesh Nagarkoti: The pacer, who previously played for Delhi Capitals, was picked up by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for ₹30 lakh.
  • Pyla Avinash: Punjab Kings (PBKS) secured the young all-rounder at his base price of ₹30 lakh.
  • Satyanarayana Raju and Ramakrishna Ghosh: Both were snapped up by Mumbai Indians and CSK, respectively, adding depth to their squads.
  • Eshan Malinga: The Sri Lankan bowler, who impressed in the Lanka Premier League and represented Sri Lanka A, was acquired by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for ₹1.2 crore after competing bids from RR.

Big Names Go Unsold

The auction also saw several high-profile international players failing to find buyers. Notable names like New Zealand’s Kyle Jamieson, England’s Chris Jordan, West Indies’ Roston Chase, South Africa’s Dwaine Pretorius, and Zimbabwe’s Blessing Muzarabani remained unsold.

Additionally, rising Indian talent Raj Limbani also failed to attract any bids, a surprising outcome given his promising performances in domestic cricket.
