India’s star wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has found a new home in the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, following a fierce bidding war at the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Kishan, who previously played for the Mumbai Indians (MI), shared an emotional farewell message with his former franchise and fans, reflecting on the cherished memories from his time with the team.
“So many memories with all of you, so many moments of joy, happiness, and growth. MI, Mumbai, and the Paltan will always remain in my heart. I’ve grown as a person and a player with all of you by my side,” Kishan wrote on Instagram. He also thanked the MI management, coaches, teammates, and fans for their unwavering support throughout his tenure.

The auction for Kishan began at ₹2 crore, with MI immediately entering the fray to bring him back. Punjab Kings (PBKS) joined the bidding, pushing the price up to ₹5 crore, at which point MI stepped back. Delhi Capitals (DC) then entered the contest, driving the bid even higher. PBKS appeared poised to secure Kishan with a ₹10 crore bid when SRH made their move, ultimately winning the player for ₹11.25 crore.
Speaking in a video shared by SRH, Kishan expressed his excitement: “Hi Hyderabad, I’m super stoked to be joining this incredible team and be part of this amazing franchise. Looking forward to working with each one of you and Orange Army, let’s play with fire.”
Ishan Kishan’s IPL and International Journey
Kishan began his IPL career in 2016, representing Gujarat Lions before joining Mumbai Indians in 2018. Over his IPL career, he has scored 2,644 runs in 105 matches at an average of 28.43 and a strike rate of 135.87, including 16 fifties, with a best score of 99. For MI, Kishan amassed 2,325 runs in 89 matches, averaging 29.80 with a strike rate of 136.84, and notched up 15 half-centuries.
On the international stage, Kishan has played 61 matches across all formats for India, scoring 1,807 runs at an average of 33.46, including a double-century and 14 fifties. In T20Is, he has scored 796 runs in 32 matches at an average of 25.67 and a strike rate of 124.67, with six half-centuries.
