Kane Williamson’s knee injury, sustained during the 13th over of a match between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings, has raised serious concerns for his team due to its potential significant impact on the team itself ahead of major events.

New Zealand coach Gary Stead recognizes the severity of the situation and acknowledges that the injury is a considerable setback for the team.

The injury occurred as Williamson attempted to save a boundary hit by CSK batter Rujuraj Gaikwad. Unfortunately, he fell awkwardly on the deep-square leg boundary, resulting in the knee injury.

Gary Stead expressed his concern for Williamson, stating that the severity of the injury remains unknown and will be assessed over the next 24-48 hours.

“We’re not sure at this stage about the severity of the injury. He is being assessed in the next sort of 24-48 hours, so we will know more after that. All we know at this stage is his right knee. It’s early in the tournament and unfortunately I can’t give you much more than that until we find out more information… You don’t wish it on anyone, let alone your captain of the white-ball team Kane Williamson. So, yeah, it’s a big blow for him and it’s a big blow for us,” Gary Stead said in interview talk.

He emphasized the significance of the injury, particularly given Williamson’s role as captain of the white-ball team, and the potential impact on the New Zealand squad.

The ODI World Cup, set to take place in India later this year, could see New Zealand face a considerable setback if Williamson is unable to recover in time.

Last year’s IPL was not particularly successful for him, as he scored 216 runs in 13 innings playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

However, over his IPL career, he has played in 77 matches, accumulating 2101 runs with an average of 36.22.
