India’s wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul expressed confidence ahead of the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25, reflecting on the team’s commanding victory over Australia in the Perth Test. India leads the five-match series 1-0 after a record-breaking 295-run win at the Optus Stadium, a performance that has boosted their morale as they prepare for the pink-ball Test in Adelaide, starting December 6.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Rahul highlighted the significance of winning the opening Test, especially at a venue known for its challenging conditions. “Winning the first game of the series, and doing it the way we did in Perth, gives us a lot of confidence. Perth is often spoken about as the fastest wicket in Australia, and teams visiting here have struggled. It’s satisfying to have performed well there,” he said.

While the team carries momentum from their victory, the Adelaide Test serves as a chance to overcome the haunting memories of the 2020 pink-ball Test, where India registered their lowest Test score of 36. On that occasion, Pat Cummins (4/21) and Josh Hazlewood (5/8) decimated the Indian batting line-up, allowing Australia to chase an easy target of 90 runs.
