India’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar has showered praise on Yadav, highlighting him as one of India’s crucial assets in the upcoming tournament. The excitement began earlier this week with the announcement of India’s squad for the forthcoming Australia ODI series. During this squad revelation, Ajit Agarkar emphasized Kuldeep’s ability to provide invaluable variations against diverse oppositions.
“Kuldeep will bring variations against different oppositions. You can see in various conditions against various oppositions. He’s one of India’s trump cards. So we’re very happy for him and excited to see what he’s doing on the cricket field at the moment,” said Agarkar, as reported by ICC.

Agarkar’s admiration for Yadav goes beyond this recent acknowledgment. He reminisced about their time together at the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). During this period, he was able to witness firsthand Yadav’s unique skill set and talents.
“I have spent a couple of years with him in the IPL,” Agarkar reflected. “He’s a guy with a special skill set, you can see that. Every player needs to be shown faith, given a bit of confidence, which is what the Indian team management has done. And it’s probably showing on the field right now,” Agarkar added.
Kuldeep Yadav’s impressive performance in the Asia Cup 2023 was a defining moment in his career. Not only did he excel, but he also earned the coveted title of Player of the Series. His remarkable performance included claiming nine wickets throughout the tournament. In a standout moment during the third Super Four match against Pakistan, Kuldeep achieved a remarkable five-wicket haul. His prowess continued as he secured four wickets in his 10-over spell against Sri Lanka.
The road ahead for India in the ODI World Cup 2023 promises excitement and challenges. India’s campaign will kick off against Australia on October 8 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Cricket enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting this spectacle, with Kuldeep Yadav emerging as a key figure to watch.
Furthermore, Yadav’s outstanding run of form in recent months is undeniable. He was named the Player of the Series in the Asia Cup, where he picked up nine wickets at an astonishing average of 11.44. This included a memorable 5/25 performance against Pakistan, contributing to a record win by 228 runs.
In ODI matches since the beginning of 2023, Yadav has notched an impressive 31 wickets at an average of 15.51. His excellence extends to T20Is, where he has claimed eight wickets with an average of 17.62 during the same time frame.
Even in Test cricket, Yadav left an indelible mark with a Player of the Match award for his exceptional performance of 8/113 against Bangladesh in December 2022.
Although Yadav is India’s lead spinner for the impending global mega event, he will be rested for the first two ODIs in the upcoming series against Australia. This strategic move is designed to ensure he is in peak condition for the World Cup.
India has already unveiled its 15-member squad for the Cricket World Cup, with spin options including Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel alongside Kuldeep Yadav.
Following the three-game ODI series against Australia, India will play two warm-up fixtures against England and Netherlands. Their quest for World Cup glory officially begins on October 8th in Chennai.
