Kushal Bhurtel Smashes Six Sixes in an Over, Joins Elite T20I Record List

  • Nepal opener Kushal Bhurtel hit six sixes in an over against China in the Asian Games Qualifier, becoming only the sixth player to achieve the feat in T20I cricket.
  • Bhurtel blasted 129 runs from just 43 balls and became the second Nepal batter after Dipendra Singh Airee to hit six sixes in an over in international cricket.
  • Nepal posted 313/2, their second-highest T20I total, before defeating China by a massive margin of 221 runs.

Nepal opener Kushal Bhurtel etched his name into the record books on Sunday after smashing six consecutive sixes in a single over during Nepal’s Asian Games Qualifier match against China at the Singapore National Cricket Ground.

The explosive batter became only the sixth player in T20 International history to achieve the rare feat. Bhurtel launched left-arm spinner Chen Zhuo Yue for six sixes in six legal deliveries during the ninth over of Nepal’s innings, leaving spectators stunned and helping his side dominate the contest.

The remarkable achievement places Bhurtel among an exclusive group of cricketers that includes India’s Yuvraj Singh, West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard, Nepal’s Dipendra Singh Airee, Samoa’s Darius Visser and Bulgaria’s Manan Bashir.

Yuvraj was the first player to hit six sixes in an over in T20I cricket when he famously took apart England pacer Stuart Broad during the inaugural ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2007. Since then, only a handful of players have managed to replicate the feat, underlining the significance of Bhurtel’s accomplishment.

Bhurtel also became the second Nepal batter to hit six sixes in an over in international cricket after teammate Dipendra Singh Airee achieved the milestone against Qatar in 2024. Nepal is now the only nation to have produced multiple players with the record in T20I cricket.

The 28-year-old crowned his memorable day with a stunning innings of 129 runs from just 43 deliveries. His knock was packed with boundaries and sixes as he tore apart the Chinese bowling attack from the outset.

Thanks largely to Bhurtel’s fireworks, Nepal piled up a massive 313/2 in their allotted 20 overs. It was the second-highest T20I total in Nepal’s history and one of the highest scores recorded in international T20 cricket.

China struggled to cope with the enormous target and were eventually bowled out for just 92 runs. Nepal completed a comprehensive 221-run victory to begin their Asian Games Qualifier campaign in dominant fashion.
