Mandla Mashimbyi Appointed as Head Coach of South Africa Women’s Cricket Team

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has named Mandla Mashimbyi as the new head coach of the South Africa women’s cricket team, ending the coaching vacancy left after Hilton Moreeng’s 11-year tenure concluded in May. Mashimbyi, a seasoned coach with extensive experience, steps into the role with ambitious plans for the Proteas Women’s Team.

Mashimbyi’s tenure will officially begin with a three-match home ODI series against England starting December 4. The series will conclude with a one-off Test in Bloemfontein from December 15-18. England currently leads the T20I leg of the ongoing series 2-0, adding intensity to the upcoming matches.

With over a decade of coaching experience, Mashimbyi has built a strong reputation for success. He has led the Momentum Multiply Titans to multiple championship victories and has also served as a bowling coach and assistant for the Proteas Men’s Team. Most recently, he was the fast bowling coach for SA20 franchise Paarl Royals.

Speaking about his appointment, Mashimbyi expressed his gratitude and enthusiasm: “It is with a profound sense of honor and humility that I accept the appointment as the Proteas Women’s Coach. I am fully aware of the significant responsibilities and expectations associated with this role.”

Before transitioning into coaching, Mashimbyi enjoyed a notable domestic career as a fast bowler. From 2003 to 2010, he played 48 first-class games, 49 List A matches, and one T20 for South African domestic teams. His deep understanding of the game, both as a player and coach, is expected to enhance the team’s competitive edge.
