Cameron Green’s maiden IPL half-century, along with fiery bowling spells from Jason Behrendorff, Riley Meredith, and Piyush Chawla, helped the Mumbai Indians (MI) secure a 14-run victory over the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their IPL 2023 match at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Tuesday. Behrendorff, Meredith, and Chawla took two wickets apiece, while Arjun Tendulkar claimed his first IPL wicket. Mayank Agarwal top-scored for Hyderabad with 48 off 41 balls, and Heinrich Klaasen contributed a quick 36 off 16 balls. Tendulkar’s wicket sealed Mumbai’s third consecutive win.

Chasing a target of 193, SRH got off to a rocky start, losing key batsman Harry Brook early on and Rahul Tripathi falling to Behrendorff for just seven runs. Captain Aiden Markram and Mayank Agarwal then took charge, punishing the Mumbai bowlers. Markram was dismissed by Green after scoring 22 runs.

In the 10th over, Chawla sent Abhishek Sharma back to the pavilion for a single run. Klaasen entered the fray, hitting four consecutive sixes before succumbing to Chawla. Agarwal narrowly missed his half-century, as Meredith dismissed him in the 15th over. SRH’s batting lineup continued to crumble, with Marco Jansen and Washington Sundar falling to Meredith and Tim David, respectively.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s brief innings ended when Tendulkar claimed his first IPL wicket, wrapping up SRH’s innings at 178. Earlier, Green’s unbeaten 64 off 40 balls and Tilak Varma’s rapid 37 off 17 balls had powered MI to 192/5. Jansen, T Natarajan, and Kumar each took one wicket for SRH.

Mumbai’s innings began aggressively, with openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan attacking Hyderabad’s bowlers. However, Natarajan dismissed Rohit for 28, and Jansen struck twice in a single over, removing Kishan for 38 and Suryakumar Yadav for 7. Green and Varma then counterattacked, adding 50 runs before Kumar dismissed Varma for 37.

Tim David joined Green at the crease, and Green reached his fifty in style, scoring 20 runs off Natarajan’s 18th over. MI added another 14 runs in the final over, setting a challenging total of 192/5, which ultimately proved enough for their third straight win.
