PCB chief says he is committed to hosting the ICC Champions Trophy 2025

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to hosting the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, stating that the board will act in the best interests of Pakistan cricket. His remarks come amid India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan for the tournament, citing security concerns.

Addressing a press conference at the Gaddafi Stadium, Naqvi emphasized the PCB’s firm stance on the issue. “Our position is very clear. We are committed to hosting the Champions Trophy, and whatever happens, it will be based on equality. We have communicated this clearly to the ICC,” he said.

Earlier this month, the PCB sought clarification from the ICC regarding India’s decision not to participate in the event in Pakistan. The PCB has maintained that it is unacceptable for Pakistan to play cricket in India without reciprocity. Naqvi stressed that the ICC must ensure fair treatment for all member nations.

“India needs to provide written objections if they have any concerns about traveling to Pakistan. So far, no discussions about a hybrid model have taken place, and we are not prepared to accept one,” Naqvi added.

The PCB chief expressed optimism that Jay Shah, who is set to assume the top ICC post in December, would prioritize the interests of international cricket over national biases. “When someone takes such a role, they should think about the benefit of the ICC and cricket as a whole,” Naqvi stated.

The ICC is expected to hold a virtual meeting on November 29 to discuss the future of the Champions Trophy 2025. The PCB has been consulting with the Pakistan government on the matter and remains hopeful for a resolution.

The tournament is tentatively scheduled for February 19 to March 2025, but the ICC has not yet finalized or announced the official schedule.
