Mumbai Indians (MI) head coach Mark Boucher has confirmed that skipper Rohit Sharma is fit to play their IPL 2023 campaign opener against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Sunday.
Both teams are schedule to play their opening match at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, marking both MI’s and RCB’s first game of the season.
Rohit’s participation in the opening match was uncertain after he missed an IPL captains’ photoshoot in Ahmedabad earlier but Boucher has dispelled any doubts, stating that Rohit is in good health and ready to play.
The coach explained that Rohit’s absence from the photoshoot was a precautionary measure and an opportunity for him to rest.

In the absence of India’s Jasprit Bumrah, England pacer Jofra Archer will lead MI’s pace attack.
Boucher confirmed that Archer, who skipped an optional training session, is fully prepared to play against RCB.
The coach expressed satisfaction with Archer’s progress since joining the team.
Reflecting on MI’s disappointing 2022 season, which saw the team finish last with only four wins in 10 matches, Boucher remains focused on the present.
He emphasizes the infusion of new talent, energy, and past IPL successes among the team members.
Acknowledging the poor performance last year, Boucher highlights the team’s positive energy and readiness to adapt.
He believes that a strong start can build momentum, but even if it doesn’t happen, there’s no need for panic, as the IPL is ultimately won in May.
