Indian cricket team captain and Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma has joined JioCinema as the brand ambassador for the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season. The announcement follows Sharma’s departure from Star Sports, where he had previously served in the same capacity.
JioCinema, a digital streaming platform owned by Reliance Group, will soon launch promos and ad campaigns featuring Rohit Sharma. The platform has also signed other cricketing icons such as Sachin Tendulkar, Suryakumar Yadav, MS Dhoni, and Smriti Mandhana as ambassadors. JioCinema’s parent company, Reliance Group, also owns the Mumbai Indians team.
In a statement, Rohit Sharma expressed his excitement about joining JioCinema and praised the platform’s role in transforming sports consumption in India. He emphasized the flexibility, accessibility, interactivity, and personalization that JioCinema offers to cricket fans.
As the brand ambassador, Sharma will work closely with JioCinema to grow its global fan base and participate in various engagement initiatives. The platform’s free streaming of IPL 2023 matches has already attracted 550 crore video weeks in the first two weeks, according to Viacom18.
Viacom18 Sports CEO Anil Jayaraj praised Sharma’s embodiment of sportsmanship and leadership, stating that these qualities align with JioCinema’s vision for the future of sports broadcasting in India.
