Rohit Sharma lauds KL Rahul and Virat Kohli after their explosive centuries against Pakistan

Rohit Sharma has commended wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul’s remarkable mental resilience as he revealed that Rahul was informed of his inclusion in the playing XI just five minutes before the toss on Sunday. Rohit’s praise came in the wake of India’s spectacular 228-run victory over arch-rivals Pakistan in a crucial Super 4 match of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023.

India’s brilliant performance was anchored by Virat Kohli’s vintage innings and KL Rahul’s explosive century, which powered them to a formidable total of 356/2. Kohli remained unbeaten at 122, crafted from 94 deliveries, while Rahul delivered a scintillating 111 off just 106 balls.

Rohit Sharma underlined the significance of Rahul’s century in the team’s success and applauded his mindset and determination, especially considering his last-minute inclusion due to injury. Rahul’s comeback innings played a vital role in India’s pursuit of a commanding score and their convincing victory over their fierce rivals.

“Virat’s innings was brilliantly paced. And then KL, last minute to get back from injury and play 5 minutes before the toss. We told him to get ready. Shows the mindset of the player. Looking at how we batted, there were lots of positives with the openers and then Virat and KL,” Rohit Sharma remarked during a post-match presentation.

The Indian skipper himself contributed with an attacking fifty to lay the foundation for India’s imposing total. He expressed his elation at the near-flawless team effort, stating, “Fantastic performance, right from yesterday. When we started, we knew the wicket was good, and we had to adjust with the rain. The two experienced (Kohli and Rahul) guys, we knew they’d take time to get their eye in, and then we could get going.”

Rohit also commended Jasprit Bumrah’s performance, highlighting his ability to swing the ball both ways and his dedication over the past months. Bumrah’s return to the team was impactful, and Rohit expressed admiration for the 27-year-old’s resilience.

Acknowledging the challenges posed by rain interruptions over the previous two days, Rohit expressed gratitude to the Colombo groundstaff for their exceptional efforts in ensuring the completion of the game. He recognized the difficulties they faced in covering and uncovering the entire ground, making the match possible.

“We just wanted to get out on the park, to get some game time. A lot of guys haven’t had that. That could only happen thanks to a great effort from the groundsmen. I know how tough it is to cover and remove covers from the whole ground. On behalf of the entire team, we would like to thank them,” Rohit Sharma concluded.
