Ruturaj Gaikwad’s impressive 92-run performance off 50 balls, along with a brief cameo from skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, set a target of 179 runs for Gujarat Titans to chase against Chennai Super Kings in the opening match of IPL 2023 at Narendra Modi Stadium.

Chennai Super Kings star opener Ruturaj Gaikwad has scored 92 off 50 balls helping his team to get to a good total against Gujarat Titans in IPL 2023 opening match today.

Gaikwad scored first fifty of IPL 2023 with the help of four 4s and nine 6s with an amazing strike rate of 220.

Ruturaj Gaikwad was caught by Shubman Gill off Alzarri Joseph when he was on 92 off just 50 balls.

The IPL 2023 season began with a dazzling opening ceremony that featured singer Arijit Singh captivating the audience, followed by dance performances from Tamanna Bhatia and Rasmika Mandhanna. After the ceremony, Gujarat Titans’ captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the four-time champions, had a rocky start as opener Devon Conway was dismissed after scoring just one run. Mohammed Shami claimed his 100th IPL wicket, leaving CSK at 14/1. Moeen Ali then joined Gaikwad at the crease, and together they pushed the team’s total past 50 runs in just 5.4 overs. Gaikwad also hit the season’s first boundary and six.

Rashid Khan ended the 36-run partnership by dismissing Ali for 23 runs, caught behind by wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha. CSK lost their second wicket with 50 runs on the board. Khan struck again, claiming the wicket of Ben Stokes, who was caught by Saha for just 7 runs, leaving CSK at 70/3.

Despite losing partners, Gaikwad continued his onslaught, scoring his fastest half-century in just 23 balls, including three fours and five sixes. Gaikwad and Ambati Rayudu helped CSK cross the 100-run mark in 11 overs and built a 51-run partnership off just 29 balls. However, Joshua Little broke the partnership by dismissing Rayudu for 12 runs, with CSK at 121/4.

In-form Gaikwad and Shivam Dube pushed CSK past the 150-run mark in 16.4 overs. Eventually, Gaikwad was dismissed for 92 runs off 50 balls, having hit 9 sixes and four boundaries. Alzarri Joseph claimed his wicket and also dismissed Ravindra Jadeja for 1 run shortly after, with CSK at 153/6.

Captain MS Dhoni then entered the fray. In the next over, Shami claimed his second wicket by sending Dube back to the pavilion. Dhoni’s powerful six and a four took CSK to a final score of 178/7 in 20 overs. He remained unbeaten with 14 runs from just seven balls.
