
Sai Sudharsan made his mark in IPL history with a record-breaking performance, becoming the fastest player to reach 2000 runs during Gujarat Titans’ clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday.
The young Gujarat Titans opener achieved the milestone in just 47 innings, surpassing the previous record held by West Indies legend Chris Gayle, who had taken 48 innings. Sudharsan needed 72 runs before the match and reached the landmark in style, smashing a six off Krunal Pandya on the final ball of the ninth over.

He continued his impressive form and went on to score a magnificent 100 off 58 balls, registering his first century of the IPL 2026 season. His innings was filled with aggressive stroke play, including 11 boundaries and five sixes, as he dominated the RCB bowling attack.
With this knock, Sudharsan now has 2028 runs in 47 IPL innings at an average of 47.16 and a strike rate of 146.96. In the ongoing IPL 2026 season, he has scored 235 runs in seven innings at an average of 33.57 and an impressive strike rate of 155.63.
Batting first after RCB captain Rajat Patidar chose to field, Gujarat Titans made a strong start. Sudharsan and skipper Shubman Gill provided a solid opening partnership, taking the team to 57/0 in the powerplay with a composed and controlled approach.
Gill contributed 32 runs off 24 balls, including two fours and a six, before the pair brought up their 100-run stand in the 10th over. Suyash Sharma eventually dismissed Gill in the 13th over after being hit for a six, ending the partnership and bringing Jos Buttler to the crease.
Sudharsan reached his half-century in just 33 balls and then accelerated further, converting it into a brilliant century. By the end of the 15th over, Gujarat Titans were in complete control at 155/1, putting RCB under heavy pressure.
Josh Hazlewood provided a breakthrough for RCB in the 16th over by dismissing Sudharsan after his outstanding hundred. Washington Sundar then came in and made an immediate impact by hitting a six off Hazlewood.
RCB bowlers tried to regain control with disciplined spells. Suyash Sharma bowled a tight 17th over, conceding just four runs, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar followed with another economical over, giving away only five runs and dismissing Jos Buttler for 25.
The Gujarat Titans innings slowed slightly in the final overs, especially with Hazlewood delivering a strong 19th over that conceded just eight runs. However, Jason Holder provided the finishing touch in the last over, smashing two sixes and a boundary to take GT past the 200-run mark.
Sudharsan’s historic achievement and match-defining century played a crucial role in powering Gujarat Titans to a commanding total of 205/3 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
