Sai Sudharsan’s 87 Leads GT To Dominant 8-Wicket Win Over CSK

Sai Sudharsan continued his outstanding form in IPL 2026 with a match-winning knock of 87, guiding Gujarat Titans to a comfortable eight-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk. The clinical chase helped GT secure their fourth win of the season and move up to fifth place in the points table.

Chasing a target of 159, Gujarat Titans made a strong start with openers Shubman Gill and Sudharsan taking control early. The duo capitalised on the powerplay, racing to 55/0 and putting immediate pressure on the CSK bowlers.

Gill looked fluent during his stay before being stumped by Sanju Samson off Noor Ahmad in the seventh over, ending the opening partnership. Despite the breakthrough, GT maintained momentum as Sudharsan carried forward the innings with confidence.

Coming into the match after a century in his previous outing, Sudharsan once again dominated the attack. He brought up his half-century in just 33 balls, combining elegant stroke play with powerful hitting. His ability to find gaps and clear the boundary, especially against the spinners like Akeal Hosein, kept the required run rate comfortably in check.

Jos Buttler, batting at number three, played a steady supporting role. He survived a dropped chance by Samson and ensured stability in the middle overs. By the 14th over, Gujarat Titans had reached 121/1, firmly in control of the chase.

Sudharsan further accelerated the scoring, smashing a six off Noor Ahmad to take GT past 130, followed by a 16-run over against seamer Gurjapneet Singh. He was eventually dismissed by Akeal Hosein after a brilliant 87 off 46 balls, but by then the match was almost sealed.

In the same over, Buttler finished the game in style by hitting a six, helping Gujarat Titans complete the chase with 20 balls to spare. This victory margin stands as GT’s second-biggest against CSK at Chepauk.

Earlier in the match, Chennai Super Kings posted 158/7, with captain Ruturaj Gaikwad playing a lone hand of 74. On a pitch offering assistance to both pacers and spinners, GT bowlers kept CSK under pressure throughout the innings.

After winning the toss and opting to bowl, Gujarat Titans struck early through Kagiso Rabada, who delivered a superb spell of 3/25. He removed Sanju Samson for 11 and Urvil Patel for 4 in quick succession, reducing CSK to 25/2 inside the powerplay.

The middle order struggled to build momentum. Dewald Brevis managed just 2 off 9 balls before falling to Manav Suthar, while Shivam Dube scored 22 off 17 balls before being dismissed by Arshad Khan.

Gaikwad held the innings together with a composed knock, hitting six fours and four sixes during his 60-ball stay. He reached his half-century and then accelerated in the death overs.

Jamie Overton provided a late boost with a quick 18 off just six balls, including three boundaries and a six, helping CSK cross the 150 mark. Kartik Sharma also chipped in with 15 before becoming Rabada’s third wicket.

Alongside Rabada, Mohammed Siraj impressed with figures of 1/23 in four overs, while Manav Suthar (1/22) and Jason Holder (0/22) kept things tight during the middle phase. Arshad Khan picked up two wickets but proved expensive in the final overs.

Gujarat Titans’ disciplined bowling effort followed by a dominant top-order performance ensured a comprehensive win as they comfortably chased down the target and strengthened their position in the tournament.
