
Sanju Samson added another major achievement to his IPL career as he completed 5,000 runs in the tournament, becoming only the 10th batter in history to reach the landmark. The milestone came during Chennai Super Kings’ clash against Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026 at Chepauk.
Samson brought up the landmark in style, hitting a four off Kagiso Rabada in the second over of the match. With this, he now has 5,008 runs in 180 innings at an average of 31.69 and a strike rate of 140.59, including five centuries and 26 half-centuries.

Samson also entered an elite list in terms of fastest batters to 5,000 IPL runs by balls faced. He is now the third-fastest to the milestone, behind AB de Villiers, who achieved it in 3,288 balls, and David Warner, who took 3,554 balls. In doing so, Samson went past several top names including Suresh Raina, KL Rahul, and MS Dhoni.
In the ongoing IPL 2026 season, Samson has been one of CSK’s standout performers. He is currently the team’s highest run-scorer with 304 runs, averaging 50.66 at a strike rate of 169.83, including two centuries.
In the match, Chennai Super Kings posted a total of 158/7 after being put under pressure by Gujarat Titans’ bowling attack. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad led the batting effort with a composed 74, holding the innings together while wickets fell at regular intervals.
