
Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer reached a major milestone in his IPL career by completing 4,000 runs during a sensational match against Delhi Capitals in IPL 2026. The landmark came during a historic run chase that saw PBKS script one of the greatest victories in tournament history.
Iyer played a crucial role in the chase, remaining unbeaten on 71 off 36 balls, smashing three fours and seven sixes at a strike rate of 197.22. He came to the crease when PBKS were at 145/3 and steadied the innings before accelerating to guide his team to victory.

With this performance, Iyer now has 4,010 runs in 140 matches and 138 innings at an average of 35.48 and a strike rate of 136.02. His IPL career includes 31 half-centuries, with a best score of 97*. He has previously represented Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders, leading KKR to a title during his stint from 2022 to 2024.
Iyer has been in exceptional form in IPL 2026. So far this season, he has scored 279 runs in seven matches at an average of 69.75 and a strike rate of 186.00, including four fifties. Since joining Punjab Kings, he has transformed his T20 approach, scoring 886 runs in 24 matches at an impressive average of 55.18 and a strike rate of 178.38, along with 10 fifties.
The match itself turned into a record-breaking contest. Delhi Capitals, after opting to bat first, posted a massive total of 264/2. The innings was powered by a 220-run partnership between KL Rahul and Nitish Rana. Rahul remained unbeaten on 152 off 67 balls, hitting 16 fours and nine sixes, while Rana contributed 91 off 44 balls with 11 boundaries and four sixes.
Punjab Kings responded with an aggressive approach from the start. Priyansh Arya scored 43 off 17 balls, while Prabhsimran Singh added a quickfire 76 off 26 balls. The duo put together 116 runs in the powerplay, setting the tone for the chase.
After the early fireworks, Iyer took control of the innings. He stitched important partnerships with Nehal Wadhera, who scored 25, and Shashank Singh, who remained unbeaten on 19, ensuring PBKS stayed ahead in the chase.
Punjab Kings eventually chased down the 265-run target in just 18.5 overs with six wickets in hand, breaking their own previous record of chasing 262 against Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2024 season.
With this win, PBKS continued their unbeaten run in the tournament, registering six wins along with one no result to reach 13 points. Delhi Capitals, meanwhile, are placed sixth with three wins and four losses, having six points so far in the competition.
