Sri Lanka Cricket has announced the schedule for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Afghanistan on home soil. The series, slated as part of their preparation for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier matches in Zimbabwe in June and July, will see the host team engaging with Afghanistan during three ODi matches.

The Afghanistan cricket team is set to touch down in Sri Lanka on May 29, readying themselves for the series. The matches are lined up for June 2, 4, and 7, and all of them will be staged at the MRIC Stadium in Hambantota.

Afghanistan last set foot on Sri Lankan soil for an ODI series in November 2022, which was marked by fiercely competitive performances from both sides. Afghanistan delivered a stunning victory in the first ODI, outplaying Sri Lanka by 60 runs, while the second match concluded with no result. However, the Lions bounced back to claim the third ODI by four wickets, bringing the series to an even keel.

In tandem, Sri Lanka’s Women’s team will be locking horns with the England Women’s Cricket team in a three-match T20I series and a three-match ODI series, commencing on August 31. The T20I clashes will take place in Hove, Chelmsford, and Derby.

Following the T20I series, the teams will compete in a three-match ODI series from September 9-14 in Chester-le-Street, Northampton, and Leicester. The remaining T20Is are scheduled at The Cloud County Ground, Chelmsford, on September 2, and The Incora County Ground, Derby, on September 6.

The ODI series will kick off at the Seat Unique Riverside in Chester-le-Street, Durham, on Saturday, September 9. This series will serve as a vital stepping stone for Sri Lanka in their quest to gear up for the Asian Games in China, which are set to unfurl from September 23 to October 8.

This upcoming series holds special significance as it will revive international men’s cricket in Hambantota, a venue that last hosted an ODI match in February 2020. The schedule for the Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan three-match ODI series is as follows:

  • 1st ODI – June 2 Hambantota
  • 2nd ODI – June 4, Hambantota
  • 3rd ODI – June 7, Hambantota
