The RCB stalwart also entered another elite club during the same innings, becoming only the third batter to hit 300 sixes in IPL history. He now has 303 sixes to his name, joining Chris Gayle (357 sixes) and Rohit Sharma (310 sixes) in the exclusive list.
Kohli’s impressive performance also helped him claim the Orange Cap as the leading run-scorer in IPL 2026 at this stage of the tournament.
His innings played a crucial role in RCB’s successful chase of a massive 206-run target. The Bengaluru side got off to a shaky start after Mohammed Siraj dismissed Jacob Bethell early, leaving them at 26/1 in three overs. However, Kohli took charge of the innings and built a strong partnership with Devdutt Padikkal.
Padikkal complemented Kohli perfectly with an aggressive 55 off just 27 balls. The duo added 115 runs in only 59 balls, keeping RCB firmly in control of the chase and ensuring the required run rate remained manageable.
After both Kohli and Padikkal were dismissed in quick succession, Gujarat Titans fought back through Rashid Khan and Manav Suthar, reducing RCB to 175/5 in 16 overs. Rajat Patidar (8) and Jitesh Sharma (10) also fell during this phase, adding pressure on the hosts.
With 31 runs needed from the last four overs, Krunal Pandya stepped up with a crucial unbeaten 23 off 12 balls. He shifted the momentum with an attacking approach, including a key 18th over that yielded 15 runs. Tim David also contributed with an unbeaten 10 off nine balls.
Krunal sealed the victory in the 19th over by pulling a short delivery from Jason Holder towards deep square leg for a single, helping RCB reach 206/5 in 18.5 overs.
The win pushed RCB to second place in the IPL 2026 points table with 10 points from seven matches, registering their fifth win of the season against two losses. Kohli’s record-breaking night and match-winning innings proved to be the highlight of a thrilling contest.
