Virat Kohli becomes fourth-highest run-scorer in T20 cricket, top scorer in IPL and T20Is

Star India and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batsman Virat Kohli has become the fourth-highest run-scorer in T20 cricket. Virat reached this milestone during RCB’s Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at M Chinnaswammy Stadium in Bengaluru.

In this match, Virat demonstrated his top form, scoring 61 runs in just 45 balls. His innings included four boundaries and four sixes, resulting in a strike rate of over 138. Throughout IPL 2023, Virat has scored 164 runs in three matches, averaging 82.00 with a strike rate above 147 and two half-centuries. His highest score in the tournament is an unbeaten 82.

Since his T20 debut in 2007, Virat has become a legend in the format. Across 362 matches and 345 innings, he has scored 11,429 runs with an average of 41.11 and a strike rate of 133.17. He has scored six centuries and 86 half-centuries, with his best score being an unbeaten 122.

Chris Gayle is currently on top of the most runs scorer list with 14562 runs across all T20 format matches. Followed by Gayle is Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik with 12528 runs and then Kieron Pollard who has scored 12175 runs.

Remarkably, Virat holds the record for the highest run-scorer in T20Is. In 115 matches and 107 innings, he has scored 4,008 runs at an average of 52.73 and a strike rate of 137.96. His international record includes one century and 37 half-centuries, with his best score also being an unbeaten 122.

In terms of T20I, Rohit Sharma is second on the list with 3853 runs while Martin Guptil is at number three with 3531 runs. Pakistan’s Babar Azam is currently the fourth highest run scorer in T20I.

At 34 years old, Virat Kohli is also the top run-scorer in IPL history. In 226 matches and 218 innings, he has scored 6,788 runs with an average of 36.69 and a strike rate of 129.54. His IPL career includes five centuries and 46 half-centuries, with his highest score being 113.

2016 ICC World T20 – India vs. Australia (82* off 51 balls):

In a must-win group stage match against Australia, Kohli played a match-winning knock of 82 runs from just 51 balls. With India chasing a target of 161, Kohli’s unbeaten innings guided the team to victory with five balls to spare, securing a place in the semi-finals.

2016 IPL – Royal Challengers Bangalore vs. Rising Pune Supergiants (108* off 58 balls):

Kohli’s unbeaten 108 off 58 balls was instrumental in helping RCB chase down a target of 192 against the Rising Pune Supergiants. His innings included 8 fours and 7 sixes, and RCB won the match with three balls remaining.

2012 ICC World T20 – India vs. Pakistan (78* off 61 balls):

Kohli’s unbeaten 78 in a high-pressure match against arch-rivals Pakistan led India to a comfortable 8-wicket victory. Chasing a target of 129, Kohli’s innings ensured India reached the target with 18 balls to spare.

2016 IPL – Royal Challengers Bangalore vs. Gujarat Lions (100* off 63 balls):

In this match, Kohli scored his maiden T20 century, contributing an unbeaten 100 off 63 balls. His innings helped RCB set a massive target of 248 for the Gujarat Lions, which they failed to chase. RCB won the match by a significant margin of 144 runs.

2022 ICC World T20 – India vs. Pakistan (82* off 53 balls):

Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten 53-ball 82* to help India secure an opening victory against Pakistan in their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 encounter. The Indian batter finished as the highest run-scorer in the competition with 296 runs to his name, at a sensational average of 98.66. Kohli smashed four fifties during the course of the tournament, including a magical knock of 82* from 53 deliveries against Pakistan.
