West Indies Recall Alzarri Joseph, Hetmyer Returns For Sri Lanka ODI Series

West Indies have announced a 15-member squad for their upcoming three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, with fast bowler Alzarri Joseph and batter Shimron Hetmyer among the notable inclusions.

The series will be played at Sabina Park in Jamaica from June 3 to June 8 and marks an important phase in the Caribbean side’s journey towards securing automatic qualification for the 2027 ICC Men’s ODI World Cup.

Shai Hope will continue to lead the “Men in Maroon” as they look to maintain their impressive form at home. West Indies are aiming to extend their unbeaten home ODI series streak to five consecutive series victories after their most recent success against Pakistan in August last year.

One of the major talking points from the squad announcement is the return of Alzarri Joseph. The fast bowler has not featured since July 2025 after being sidelined with a back injury. Spinner Gudakesh Motie is also back in the squad after missing the ODI series in New Zealand last November.

Shimron Hetmyer has earned a return to the ODI setup following his strong performances in the recent ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Cricket West Indies views his inclusion as part of its long-term preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup. However, Hetmyer will join the squad ahead of the third and final ODI of the series.

Head coach Daren Sammy believes the team’s recent success on home soil has provided the players with confidence as they prepare to face a competitive Sri Lankan side.

The squad reached Jamaica on May 31 after completing a 10-day training camp at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua, where preparations were finalized for the series.
